One of the goals of Michigan’s tourism industry is to excel at customer service, to provide each and every visitor to our state an exceptional experience at every location they visit. We call this The Pure Michigan Promise and we hope that every community and organization throughout the state will join us in pledging to deliver upon it: We promise to take pride in exceeding your expectations with a heartfelt and unforgettable experience, leaving you eagerly anticipating your return to Pure Michigan.
To share The Pure Michigan Promise throughout the state, we are developing a short motivational video that captures the essence of the promise in a fun and inspiring way. That’s where your community or organization comes in … submit a video that demonstrates what the promise means to you and how you deliver on it to your guests, and we might use a portion of your entry in our video. The final video will be posted on Youtube and will be distributed widely throughout the industry, offering the opportunity for your community or organization to be showcased to hundreds of thousands of Michiganders. The very best entries will also be recognized at an awards ceremony at the 2017 Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Detroit next March.
- Be submitted by/on behalf of a community/organization that is based in Michigan by an individual who, at the date of submission, is 18 years or older.
- Clearly relate to Michigan’s tourism and hospitality industry.
- Be focused on customers or visitors.
- Demonstrate how your community or organization embodies the Pure Michigan Promise in its daily operations.
- Not make use of the Pure Michigan logo.
- Not make use of any other copyrighted material, e.g., music.
- Not exceed 90 seconds in length or 5GB in size.
- Be in one of these formats: WebM, MPEG, 3GP, MOV, AVI, WMV.
- Include a signed and dated release/waiver form (one per entry).
- Include (or be able to provide) a release/waiver for each person shown in the video.
- Include written permission to use any facility or property shown in the video that is not in the public domain (one per facility/property).

By submitting your video, you are constituting your acceptance of these official rules and criteria. These rules and criteria are for a binding agreement between you and the Michigan Travel Commission and Travel Michigan, through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, (collectively, the “Sponsors”) with respect to the challenge.
Your video submission must be original and of your own creation. Any submission that, in Sponsor’s sole discretion is (i) obscene, profane, lewd, or defamatory, (ii) does not meet the requirements outlined in these rules and criteria, (iii) is objectionable, or (iv) is not in keeping with Sponsor’s image, may not be considered. All video submissions become the property of Sponsors upon submission and will not be acknowledged or returned. You represent and warrant that the submission does not violate the intellectual property or proprietary rights of other parties.
By submitting a video for this challenge, you hereby grant Sponsors and its affiliates, successors, assigns, licensees, sub-licensees, agents and partners an irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, unrestricted, perpetual sub-licensable (through multiple tiers) and transferable right and license to use, copy, transmit, publish, or otherwise distribute, modify, create derivative works based upon, incorporate other works, publicly perform and display the submission or any portion thereof, in and through any medium, whether now known or hereafter created for any and all lawful purposes.
Sponsors, in their sole discretion, reserve the right at any time not to post, use, or to remove any submission. Decisions of the Sponsor will be final.
If any facility or property is shown in the submitted video that is not in the public domain, a written permission to use the facility or property must be obtained by the entrant and provided to the Sponsor. Each person in a submitted video must also sign a release and waiver consenting to the use of their likeness without compensation and provided to the Sponsor.
These rules and criteria are governed by the law of the State of Michigan, excluding rules governing choice of laws. Any action, suit or case arising out of, or in connection with, this challenge must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Michigan with jurisdiction where the Sponsor resides.
